Thank you to the mighty SCOL Forest Crew!

June 10, 2025

Our most recent SCOL work party was on June 7. If we were Scouts, the
members of this crew would have earned their Wood Stacking Badges. Rick
McMonagle led the wood splitting team with Duncan Borland offering much appreciated
technical support. After the rounds from previously felled trees were split, Albrecht
Enders, Andrew Gross, and Evelyn Roether were able stack the shed with enough
wood for the next two winters. The wood stove at the Creek House is the only source of
warmth on the property if the power goes out. After last winter our shed was empty until
it was filled again this weekend.
Thanks to John Jennings and Tea Perkins, volunteers also addressed fire safety
tasks including screening-in most of the space below the front deck to keep out sparks,
raking leaves away from buildings, clearing debris from roofs and gutters, and
distributing burlap bags and buckets to all the buildings (also to defend against wildfire
sparks). There is still much left to do in readiness for fire season, but we made great
headway.
With property and a facility of this size, projects could not be completed without
the help of our incredible KCC Sangha and friends. Thank you to all who contributed to
the health and beauty of SCOL. We enjoyed friendship, service and wonderful meals
together.

If you are interested in volunteering at SCOL, contact Vicki Fields at
or complete a SCOL Volunteer Interest Form during your next visit
to KCC. We have opportunities for every interest and skill level. Our next work party is
scheduled for Saturday November 15, 2025. Come join us!
