Reflections from KCC’s 2027 Leadership Retreat
Last weekend, October 23–25, KCC staff, board members, service group leaders, meditation leaders, and active sangha members gathered at SCOL for our annual leadership retreat. Together, we reflected on the many accomplishments of 2026 and identified goals for 2027 that advance the vision outlined in KCC’s strategic plan.
Our priorities for 2027
We identified four primary areas of focus for the coming year:
- SCOL staffing and human resources support: A workgroup will develop and recommend staffing and volunteer models for SCOL, along with options for human resources support for retreat center staff.
- Long-retreat planning: A workgroup will lead the planning and implementation of a one-year retreat, tentatively scheduled to begin in fall 2028.
- Programming: We will introduce programming on the Essentials of Buddhism and develop additional ideas for sangha-led offerings.
- Dharma Stewardship Fund: We will launch a fundraising campaign for this fund, which serves as the Board’s unrestricted reserve. It helps cover major repairs, replacements, and maintenance, and provides seed funding for strategic initiatives.
Additional goals
We also identified several goals to strengthen community connections and support KCC’s ongoing work:
- Hold three sangha meetings each year.
- Introduce post-practice tea times and other opportunities for social connection.
- Improve donor outreach and update fundraising strategies.
- Recruit a new volunteer to write sangha profiles and establish an editorial calendar for the sustaining supporter drive.
- Complete the Bylaw Sangha List.
If you would like to help with any of these goals or activities, please speak with Tim or any board member. Your participation will help bring these plans to life.
Celebrating our community
The leadership retreat was also a welcome opportunity to deepen our connections with one another. We shared hearty, delicious meals, took walks on the land, and even rehearsed a song for Karmaoke!
Thank you to everyone in the community for showing up to practice and play throughout 2026 as we celebrated KCC’s 50th anniversary. We look forward to carrying that spirit of dedication, connection, and joy into the coming year for the benefit of all beings.
