March Climate Corner
Welcome to Climate Corner. Each month we offer ideas for small behavior changes we can make to care for the earth and earthlings. Last month we looked at reducing meat consumption. This month, let’s reduce food waste.
Food we throw away produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas that pollutes the air and contributes to climate change. Ideas for reducing food waste include:
- Don’t overbuy perishables. Check for what is left in the fridge before you go shopping.
- Cook food before it spoils.
- Experiment when you cook. Substitute using ingredients you already have.
- Take leftovers home in your reusable to-go container when dining out.
- If you can, compost those fruit and potato peels, etc.
Together let’s reduce food waste in landfills with care and mindfulness.
