Celebrating 25 Years of SCOL

October 2, 2026

Thank you to everyone who came out to SCOL this past weekend to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and special thanks to our dedicated SCOL staff and the many hands that helped make it happen! For those who presented at tables, managed parking, prepared the space, cooked, and helped with cleanup, the event would not have been possible without your support.

As many of you know, SCOL has been central to KCC’s growth and to the aspirations of many members of our sangha who have sought deeper engagement with the Dharma through retreat, which holds such an important place in our tradition.

Around 40 people joined for the celebration, with many staying overnight on Friday or Saturday. Together we enjoyed presentations on the wildlife and geography of SCOL, its inception and history, an introduction to retreat, and a guided sit with Lama Eric to make aspirations for the continued deepening of our practice. At lunch we were treated to an absolutely superb meal prepared by Beth, with support from June, which was so abundant that it carried us through dinner and well into Sunday.

May SCOL continue to host many more gatherings and retreats, both short and long, and may it remain a place that nourishes all who come to the land!

Watch the short video below compiled by Jennifer for some highlights of the day. We hope to see you at SCOL again soon for upcoming retreats, such as Plein Air Painting with Jef Gunn or Practicing With the Heart-Mind, given by Lama Kathleen.
