Pat Parker
Pat’s journey with KCC began with a class offered at PCC. She drove 110 miles from Eugene to Portland weekly to attend Full Catastrophe Lifestyle, taught by Lama Michael and Julia King Tamang. This class, designed to reduce stress and pain, was where Pat first felt a deep connection to Lama Michael. Little did she know, this class would ignite a transformative journey—one that would lead her to the heart of KCC and a life filled with learning, devotion, and growth.
When the class ended, Pat was not ready to let go of what she had discovered. She felt a profound calling, a yearning to learn more, and decided to take refuge. That was January 1, 2000. It was here, at KCC, that Pat’s study of Buddhism truly deepened. She became a devoted student of Lama Michael, eagerly attending every class, never wanting to miss a moment of the teachings. Her determination and commitment were so strong, as she dove deeper into the practices, embracing every opportunity to expand her understanding.
One of the practices that Pat has always felt a strong affinity for is the Chenrezi practice. She found solace in both the creation and completion stages of this practice, relating deeply to its teachings on compassion. Chenrezi, embodying the heart of compassion, spoke to her on a profound level. Pat has participated in numerous retreats on Chenrezi and found joy in the singing, especially in Tibetan. These practices became a cornerstone of her spiritual journey, nurturing her heart and mind.
KCC has become Pat’s spiritual home. Over the years, she has watched herself grow alongside the sangha, each step of her journey intertwined with the teachings she has received. First, with Lama Michael and his assistant teachers, and now with Lama Eric.
In addition to her spiritual journey, Pat has played a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of KCC. Since 2005, she has served as the person responsible for collecting cash or checks written to KCC, entering them into the Neon system, and making deposits at the bank. She also served as a Board of Directors for 8 years as well as the Volunteer Support Committee. Pat has proven to be a constant and reliable presence in the background for the benefit of all at KCC.
Pat’s journey is a beautiful example of what it means to follow a path with dedication, compassion, and grace. She has grown alongside the teachings, and her deep love for KCC and the Dharma is felt by all who know her.
To Pat, we offer our deepest gratitude for the years of service, devotion, and love you’ve given to KCC. May your path continue to be illuminated with the wisdom and compassion that you have shared with all of us. Thank you, Pat!
