Betta Horn as new SCOL Staff Member
A Warm Welcome Back to Betta Horn!
We’re thrilled to officially welcome Betta Horn to the SCOL staff! While she’s a familiar face for some at KCC, she’s now joining Vicki Fields in supporting our precious retreat land, center, and retreatants.
Betta’s connection to KCC runs deep. Her journey with Tibetan Buddhism began in 1996, sparked by Sogyal Rinpoche’s “The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.” This led her to KCC, where she met Lama Michael Conklin, with whom she took Refuge and the Bodhisattva Vow in 2010-2011.
From 2012-2013, Betta generously volunteered as SCOL retreat support staff, even contributing to the construction process by caulking the Shrine room floor in the South wing! She was present for the installation of both the Lama’s and staff quarters, and even cooked for Khenchen Rinpoche and his Tibetan helpers (with Ngodup as translator) during their visit to Portland.
Beyond her dedication to KCC, Betta is a woman of many talents. She enjoys painting, wildlife photography, sewing, reading, cooking, gardening, and landscaping, and has a deep love for animals. Her creative spirit shines through in all her endeavors.
Betta’s commitment to service extends far beyond KCC. After her previous time at SCOL, she remained in Goldendale, working as a CNA for New Hope Farms, Home Health & Hospice, and the local hospital. She even helped establish a new satellite lab for the Family Medicine Practice, truly becoming an integral part of the Goldendale community.
Following a period dedicated to family care in North Carolina and Alabama, Betta returned to Goldendale in October 2024. Now, she brings her wealth of experience and heartfelt aspiration for deeper understanding and service back to KCC.
We are so happy to have you, Betta!
