Tonglen—Training the Mind with Compassion

October 8, 2021 - October 9, 2021

Teacher: Tim Campbell and Zopa Herron

Thought Transformation—another name for mind training—is a ticket to happiness It is like going to a treasure island covered with gems. Through mind training, everything and everyone becomes an opportunity to practice. Nothing can be found that cannot be used for training the mind.

—Geshe Jampa Tegchok in “Transforming Adversity into Joy and Courage”

This retreat includes formal instruction in meditation and contemplation practices specific to the “Mind Training” tradition, with a special focus on the practice of tonglen. The emphasis in this tradition is the application of dharma to everyday life. Rather than calcifying practice into rote learning, liturgical chanting, or a series of set responses and practices, this system leads individuals to the employment of intelligence and compassion in every aspect of their life.

This is intended to be a silent retreat. We will meet on Zoom from 9:00-4:30pm each day with a lunch break and plenty of stretch breaks. As you are able, you will be encouraged to carry forth the silent retreat in your own home as best you can.

Join us as we explore Tonglen, the practice of exchanging self and other.
