Sunday, June 23, Lama Sonam from Eugene will lead Sunday morning practice and discussion at the Portland Center in person and on Zoom. Lama Sonam and his wife Lama Yang Chen did the three-year retreat with Lama Michael in Marcola, Oregon, and have been close dharma friends of KCC for many decades. They are key supporters of Lama Tsang Tsing and the KDC dharma center in Eugene.

The foundation of Buddhist meditation is Shamatha, a meditation that develops stable attention which serves as the essential underpinning of all other meditation practices.

At the beginning of each session, brief instruction to the practice of Shamatha will be given. After a one-hour session and a 10-minute break, there will be a teaching or question-and-answer period with participants.

9:00am – 10:00am — Shamatha meditation, with brief instruction
10:15am – 11:00am — Teachings and/or question and answer session
