A Beginners’ Introduction to the Role of Thangkas in Tibetan Buddhism

Ever wanted to know more about the beautiful sacred scroll paintings—thangkas—that adorn the walls of KCC’s meditation hall?

Join us for a lively slide/lecture presentation followed by a questions and answer period with KCC’s own master artist, Sanje Elliott.

We’ll start with an overview of the tradition and meaning of thangka painting and see examples of the various categories of thangkas: buddhas, bodhisattvas, enlightened beings, mandalas, teaching thangkas and more. Learn about the not-so-obvious symbolism in thangkas and how to interact with and care for thangkas as part of your practice.

The class is donation-only. All proceeds benefit KCC. Suggested donation is $20, but please—do come, even if you cannot make a donation. All are welcome, including children.
