New Year’s Retreat and Refuge Ceremony

December 31, 2021 - January 1, 2022

On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, we will continue with our long-standing tradition of hosting two days of practice and prayers to conclude one year and move into the next. We will use the turning of the new year to reflect on our past year of dharma practice and rejoice in whatever we were able to do. And we will form our aspirations for the year to come, setting some intention for how we would like to move into and through the new year.

Over the course of each day, we will work with the main practices we focus on at KCC to nurture compassion and reveal our inherent wisdom. These will include some reflections on aspects of the four thoughts that turn the mind to dharma, the four immeasurables, shamatha and vipashyana, Chenrezi practice, and chanting of aspiration prayers. As usual, there will be frequent stretch breaks and some opportunities for discussion.

At 11:00am on January 1st, there will be a refuge ceremony for anyone who has not taken refuge before. Taking refuge is the formal step of becoming Buddhist. If you have done so already in another tradition, you needn’t take refuge again. You do not have to participate in the retreat to take refuge. If you are interested in taking refuge, please contact Linda Grove at lgrove@KCC.org.

Those joining in person will need to show proof of vaccination. Masks must be worn except while eating or drinking. If attending via Zoom, you will receive the Zoom link at the time of registration.
