Movie Night: Bokar Rimpoché
August 17, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Join together at the Portland Center or on Zoom to watch a movie about Bokar Rinpoche, one of the foundational teachers of Kagyu Changchub Chuling and Lama Eric’s root teacher. We will have snacks and discussion afterwards. Come join us!
About the movie:
“Renowned as one of Tibetan Buddhism’s great spiritual masters, Bokar Rinpoche devoted his life to the practice of meditation while living in exile in the isolation of a small mountain monastery. As the spiritual son of Kalu Rinpoche, Bokar Rinpoche was close to the Dalaï-lama and became the meditation master of the 17th Karmapa. He was both the inheritor and the representative of an ancient wisdom, passed down from generation to generation, that awakens us to a unique reflection on the meaning of life, love and death.
By way of a great journey through the landscapes of the Indian Himalaya, the film invites us to discover the everyday life of a grand spiritual Master. Through his teachings, Bokar Rinpoche proposes a real introduction to Tibetan Buddhism that, far from resembling an esoteric and inaccessible philosophy, is presented as a universal approach to the elementary mechanisms of happiness and suffering. For true and lasting happiness emanate from an inner peace that can only be found by cultivating altruism, love and compassion, instead of selfishness, hate and greed.”
