October 22, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Teacher: Jangchub Choeling Nuns
THE JOY OF GIVING
Join us Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 pm for a Dakini Dance and Chö Ritual
KCC is delighted to welcome to our Portland Center the nuns from Jangchub Choeling Nunnery, in Mundgod, India. Jangchub Choeling Nunnery is an educational institute for women who vigorously pursue the study of Buddhist scripture, in the Nalanda tradition, culminating in the Geshema Degree (Doctoral Degree). The Nunnery was established in 1987 under the vision and support of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
A select group of nuns are currently traveling on what they call the JANGCHUB JAMTSE TOUR to support the nunnery. Jangchub is bodhicitta and Jamtse means loving-kindness. Their goal is to offer an experience that is permeated with fun and adventure, and cultural sharing through teaching, prayers, creation of sacred mandalas and ritual dance.
The nuns will be performing two short programs at KCC, a Dakini Dance and the Chö Ritual.
Dakini Dance is a physical expression of awakened energy in forms that have been passed down over centuries. The dancers are engaged in a practice of meditation, and through choreography, they transmit a connection to various emanations of awakened mind such as buddhas, bodhisattvas, dakas, dakinis, and lineage masters.
The Chö Ritual includes beautiful, often haunting, chanting accompanied by drum and bell in the spirit of offering one’s body as a mandala to objects of refuge, to all sentient beings, and to one’s karmic creditors.
Bring your friends and family to join us to celebrate these monastics and their practice to support the continuation of beneficial activity.
This session will be held in-person only at KCC on NE Skidmore in Portland.
No registration is required; all are welcome. Please donate directly to Jangchub Cheoling Nunnery.
