Amitabha Practice Instruction
August 24, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Teacher: Lama Eric Triebelhorn
Amitabha is a well known buddha in the Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions. Among the five buddha families, he is the head of the padma or lotus family, and is perhaps best known for presiding over the buddha field of Sukhavati, or Dewachen in Tibetan. Many supplicate Amitabha, recite his mantra, or engage in his practice with the aspiration to take birth in that realm where one can practice without impediment until awakening.
In recent years at the Bokar Mahamudra Seminars in India, Khenchen Lodro Donyo Rinpoche has given the Amitabha empowerment and encouraged the practice. Lama Tsang Tsing also offered the empowerment recently in KDC in Eugene, OR, and several KCC sangha members attended.
Lama Eric has been requested to offer teachings on this relatively short and accessible practice. The variety of visualizations offered in Karma Chakme’s commentary offer the practitioner a multitude of visualizations to connect with this important practice.
Requirement to Attend
To receive the teachings, one must have received the empowerment. The reading transmission and instructions will given on this day. The event will be recorded, and this will be available for participants to review. There is a small fee for the teaching but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
The Practice Text
Lama Eric has created a booklet that contains the practice text with Tibetan, phonetics, and English as well as a commentary on the practice, both authored by Karma Chakme Rinpoche. It is the same as the booklet that was available at the seminars in Mirik, India. If you need one, please let him know by August 11th.
