SUMMARY:Engaged Buddhism Meeting
DESCRIPTION:There are two wings to our practice – wisdom and compassion. If we only exercise one wing\, we cannot fly. \nIn this second get-together we hope to brainstorm ways of working our wing of compassion in our homes\, our neighborhoods\, our world. \nOf course\, to do this skillfully we must keep the wing of wisdom and equanimity-towards-all working simultaneously. How can KCC members support each other in this difficult work? Join us to share your ideas. \n“Hope Is a Strategy\, And Community Is the Front Line” \nAmid the danger\, the civil rights leader Eric Ward calls on everyday Americans to show moral courage—not forged in battle\, but in unity. “Courage starts with a breath\,” he says. “We need to stop panicking\, support our local governments\, and rejoin civic life even if it’s just quilting clubs or faith groups. Presence in community is resistance.” \nQuestions? Contact Cynthia@kcc.org \nClick here to read about the outcomes of the first meeting and additional ways to get involved.\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/engaged-buddhism-meeting-2/

SUMMARY:White Tara Practice Review
DESCRIPTION:***You must have received a White Tara empowerment to attend this teaching. A Green Tara or any other Tara empowerment does not suffice.*** \nEarlier this year\, Khenchen Lodrö Donyö Rinpoche granted the empowerment for White Tara\, one of the most accessible yidam practices of the highest yoga tantra in the Kagyu tradition. This beloved practice is renowned for enhancing one’s merit\, long life\, and wisdom. And though the text is relatively short\, it contains the majority of the common elements of a vajrayana ritual of this class. To engage in this type of practice one needs three things: the empowerment\, the reading transmission\, and the instructions. During this event\, the reading transmission and instructions will be given (not the empowerment). \nLama Eric will review the various aspects of the practice and will lead guided meditations on the sadhana. There will be opportunities to ask questions and get clarification on difficult points. Lama Eric has created a new translation of the text and it is available for purchase. It will be much easier to follow the teachings if you are using this version. Please let us know if you will need a text so we can be sure to have enough. \nThrough yidam practice\, we transform our ordinary experiences of body\, speech\, and mind into the awakened expressions of White Tara’s body\, speech\, and mind. Our form is White Tara; our speech becomes her mantra; and through various samadhis and the dissolution\, we approach awakened mind. Meditation on a yidam can be a powerful and effective complement to our practices of shamatha\, vipashyana\, and compassion. In fact\, all of these essential aspects of the Buddhist path are complete within this practice. \nIn addition to the practice text\, you can choose to purchase a commentary on the practice by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche\, The Wish-Fulfilling Wheel\, or one by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche\, White Tara\, Healing Light of Wisdom. We have limited copies of both in the KCC bookstore. \nThere will be a short lunch break from noon until 1:00pm—please bring your lunch. \n  \nREGISTER HERE \nThis event is offered on a sliding scale to support broad access. We invite you to contribute at a level that reflects your means. If you’re able to give more\, your contribution helps keep these events running and accessible to all. If you need support\, please know you’re welcome and that no one is turned away for lack of funds. \n \n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/white-tara-practice-review/

SUMMARY:KARMAOKE Fall FUNdraising
DESCRIPTION:Karmaoke is back for an encore performance!\nKarmaoke debuted last year and thanks to the warmth and generosity of our sangha\, it was a joyful celebration and true success. This year\, we’re bringing it back with even more gratitude in our hearts\, blending music\, laughter\, and the spirit of giving. \nFollowing our Sunday shamatha meditation from 9:00 – 11:00 AM\, we’ll kick off with a Thanksgiving Potluck at 11:30 to share our favorite vegetarian dishes and our appreciation for one another. This meal will be an opportunity to honor the blessings of community\, the dharma that connects us\, and the countless ways we support each other on this path. \nAfterward\, the music begins! Karmaoke is not just karaoke—it’s dharma-infused FUNdraising. From 1:00 – 3:00 PM\, we’ll sing the songs that move our hearts\, reflect on our struggles and joys\, support our journey\, and echo the timeless spirit of gratitude and compassion. Whether you step up for a solo\, join a duet\, or sing in harmony with the whole community\, your voice will be part of a chorus of generosity\, strengthening our community and supporting KCC. \nWe are aiming to raise $40\,000\, with an anonymous sangha member already generously contributing $10\,000 toward that goal. Every dollar raised will go directly to support KCC’s operating expenses. \n  \nHelp sustain the Dharma teachings\, gatherings\, and care that nourish our community.\nYour contribution is deeply appreciated! \n \nDONATE HERE \n  \nWhile we hope for you to join us in-person\, for those unable to make it\, Karmaoke will also be live-streamed using the same Zoom link as Sunday Shamatha. \nTo attend over Zoom \nClick the button below to enter the session. If you join early\, you’ll be placed in a waiting room until the session begins. \nDepending on your Zoom settings\, you may be asked to enter a passcode for this event. \nPasscode: 798448 \nIf you experience any issues accessing the session\, please reach out via email at zoom@kcc.org. \n  \nJOIN ON ZOOM\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/karmaoke-fall-fundraising/

SUMMARY:Children's Program
DESCRIPTION:The KCC Children’s Program is an opportunity to introduce children to Buddhist values within a supportive\, sincere dharma community using simple dharma activities\, storytelling\, open discussion\, songs\, art projects and activities\, including play\, to promote kindness and compassion. Our goal is to provide a fun\, meaningful experience for all. \nSunday Morning Children’s Program \nOn the second and fourth Sundays of each month\, from 9:00 to 11:00 am\, we offer the Sunday Morning Children’s Program. This program normally starts in September and runs through the second Sunday in June. In July and August we meet once a month on the fourth Sunday. We require that at least one parent or guardian be present at KCC when their child attends. \nThe age range we currently serve is 5 to 12; however\, we do allow slightly younger and older children on a case by case basis as appropriate. Please feel free to discuss this with the program coordinator\, Laurie Simpson\, if needed. Email contact here. \nWhile there is no fee for the program\, dana (offerings) are accepted and go towards helping us continue providing programs such as these. In order to support the program on Sundays we ask that parents agree to be available to assist the teacher if needed – this is a shared role and can be filled by parents or other adults who wish to participate in this way. During the regular school year please note that we request you consider committing to bringing your child both Sundays each month throughout this time frame\, but this is not required. \nAlso please be aware that\, to attend this program\, your child needs to be able to manage their speech and physical activity cooperatively in a small group to help maintain a peaceful children’s sangha. If this is a concern we ask that you attend with your child until they are comfortable with the group. Ultimately we want to be as inclusive as possible\, but must also work to create a safe and welcoming environment for all attending.\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/childrens-program-4-2/2025-11-23/
