SUMMARY:Green Tara Practice Review
DESCRIPTION:At KCC and via Zoom \nFollowing up on Ven. Lama Tsang Tsing offering the Green Tara empowerment at KCC on Saturday\, July 11th\, Lama Eric will offer a review of the practice on Saturday\, July 18th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. An outline of the sadhana (practice text) will be provided\, and texts will be available for purchase. \nGreen Tara is a Vajrayana practice that involves visualization and mantra recitation to approach what Green Tara embodies—the activity of all the Buddhas. This particular version is constructed around the recitation of the famed Twenty-One Praises to Tara. This is a kriya-yoga practice where we principally imagine Green Tara before us\, present offerings\, and recite these well-known praises. The Twenty-One Praises are part of many esteemed teachers’ daily practice\, including Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche\, Khenchen Rinpoche\, and many others. \nWe will do the practice as a group\, in English\, pausing at each section break for instruction and clarification. The session will be recorded\, and the video will be made available to all who attend. In addition\, you will be provided access to an online folder with many other helpful resources\, such as videos of the mudras\, recordings of practice sessions\, images\, and more. \nGreen Tara is a regular practice at KCC. It is held on the second\, third\, fourth\, and fifth (when applicable) Monday mornings of the month at 7:00 am\, over Zoom only. On Monday\, July 20th\, the practice will be done in English\, and concise instructions will be offered that day as reminders of what we’ll cover in detail on Saturday. \n\nJoin on Zoom\n\nClick the Zoom button below to enter the session.\n\nPlease note that if you join early\, you’ll be placed in a waiting room until the host arrives. Depending on your Zoom settings\, you may be asked to enter a passcode for this event. \nPasscode: 961791 \nIf you experience any issues accessing the session\, please reach out via email at zoom@kcc.org. \n  \nJOIN ON ZOOM\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/green-tara-practice-review/

SUMMARY:Vajrasattva\, Green Tara\, and Chenrezi Empowerments with Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing
DESCRIPTION:Empowerment Opportunities Abound!\nRegistration for this event is closed. \nWe are pleased to announce that Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing has accepted our invitation to grant three empowerments at KCC as part of our yearlong celebration of our dharma center’s 50th anniversary. He will be bestowing the three initiations that are most essential to KCC’s programming: Vajrasattva\, Green Tara\, and Chenrezi. \nEmpowerment is a key feature of Vajrayana Buddhism and can be understood as a formal initiation for a particular yidam practice. A yidam is a manifestation of awakened mind—wisdom\, compassion\, and ability—in form. There is a practice for each yidam where we imagine that yidam (often regarding ourselves in that form) and recite a mantra. By imagining our being manifested as awakened body\, speech\, and mind\, these types of meditation are said to hasten our awakening. \nVajrasattva is associated with purification and is part of the ngondro\, or preliminary\, practices\, of the Mahamudra tradition. Green Tara is considered the embodiment of the activity of all the buddhas\, and Chenrezi is seen as an emanation of the compassion of all the buddhas. Even if you do not plan to begin such practices right away\, it is considered very positive to take such empowerments. By receiving empowerments\, auspicious seeds are planted in our being and these rituals are said to have a “ripening effect” on our spiritual path to awakening. We are thus encouraged to take such empowerments again and again. \nThe only prerequisite is to first take the vow of refuge\, which is a formal way to enter the Buddhist path. This will be offered before each initiation. There are no mandatory practice commitments for receiving any of these. \nLama Tsang Tsing is the resident lama of our sister center\, Kagyu Dakshang Chuling in Eugene\, Oregon\, and is a highly respected monk and practitioner. Lama Tsang Tsing spent some of his youth at Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet and later did the second three-year retreat at Sonada under Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche and Bokar Rinpoche. He was later sent to America by Kalu Rinpoche to act as the retreat master for the three-year retreat attended by Lama Michael Conklin from 1986-1989. \nDates and times \nVajrasattva Empowerment: Friday\, July 10th at 7:00pm – 9:00pm\nGreen Tara Empowerment: Saturday\, July 11th at 2:00pm – 4:00pm\nChenrezi Empowerment: Sunday\, July 12th at 10:00am – 12:00pm\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/vajrasattva-green-tara-and-chenrezi-empowerments-with-venerable-lama-tsang-tsing/

SUMMARY:Living the Wisdom of Lojong: A Course in Applied Mind Training
DESCRIPTION:This group offers an opportunity to explore the classic Buddhist teachings known as Lojong\, or “mind training.” These teachings are organized into short\, memorable sayings\, called aphorisms\, that serve as practical reminders for cultivating compassion\, resilience\, and wisdom in everyday life. Whether you are continuing on from 2025’s Mind Training: Foundational Texts Review\, or joining us for the first time\, you’ll be warmly welcomed. \nIn this new cycle\, we’ll place special emphasis on practice and integration. The usual 18‑month curriculum\, led by Tim Campbell\, has been condensed into an 8-month course\, allowing us to focus deeply on the core aphorisms from Points 1 and 2\, which establish the foundations of mind training\, while also engaging with key selections from Points 3–7. \nTogether\, we’ll reflect\, discuss\, and apply these aphorisms\, bringing their wisdom into the challenges and opportunities of modern life. \nLogistics & Schedule \nWhen: Every 2nd and 4th Thursday\nTime: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM\nWhere: Hybrid format—in-person at KCC and on Zoom.\nText: Training In Compassion\, by Norman Fischer \nThe Heart of the Practice \nAs the poet David Whyte reminds us\, “There’s a small opening at the beginning of each day that closes the moment you begin your plans. What you can plan is too small for what you can live.” In that spirit\, we’ll keep our structure focused but flexible\, while staying centered on practice. \nBefore the first class\, we will send out your initial reading assignment. The subsequent bi-weekly rhythm will follow this pattern: \n\n2nd Thursday Class (Practice Initiation): We will come together to explore the questions and insights from the previous two weeks of study. The core focus will be to understand\, “What is the practice?” We will then engage in the active practice of the specific aphorism\, committing ourselves to it for the next two weeks.\nBetween Classes (Two Weeks): Participants engage in the committed\, real-world practice of the aphorism.\n4th Thursday Class (Review & Introduction): We will review our practice efforts\, dialog about any issues or questions that arose\, and refine our engagement. We will then introduce the reading assignment and contemplation theme for the next two-week cycle.\n\nThis practice-focused cycle ensures we are using the aphorisms not just as philosophy\, but as tools for transformation. We invite both continuing participants and newcomers to join us in this journey of practice and discovery and hope to see you there! \n  \nREGISTER HERE\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/mind-training-group-living-the-wisdom-of-lojong-3/2026-07-09/

SUMMARY:Engaged Buddhism Meeting
DESCRIPTION:There are two wings to our practice – wisdom and compassion. If we only exercise one wing\, we cannot fly. Of course\, to do this skillfully we must keep the wing of wisdom and equanimity-towards-all working simultaneously. \nFor this meeting\, we’ll take time to check in\, reflect together\, and discuss the principles and precepts of Engaged Buddhism as described here\, considering how they can inform our practice and the way we move through the world. \nQuestions?
