SUMMARY:Open House Celebrating 50 Years of KCC
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited! Come celebrate 50 years of peace and community at KCC.\nKagyu Changchub Chuling\, a cornerstone of the Pacific Northwest’s spiritual landscape\, is proud to announce its 50th anniversary. To honor this “Golden Jubilee\,” the center will host an Open House on June 20 at its Portland location\, inviting the local community to explore the history\, heart\, and practice of Vajrayana Buddhism. \nFounded in 1976 by the world-renowned Tibetan meditation master Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche\, KCC has evolved from a small group of practitioners meeting in bookstores into a thriving sanctuary for those seeking clarity and wisdom. \nFor more information on KCC’s 50th Year and the history of the center\, click here. \nActivities: \n\nGuided Tours: Explore the sacred artwork and meditation hall of KCC.\nInterest Tables: Learn about weekly meditation classes\, upcoming retreats\, and community service.\nMultimedia Exhibits: Sharing highlights of KCC’s 50-year history and the beauty of its rural retreat center.\nHospitality: Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.\nFamily-Friendly Fun: Interactive activities for all ages to discover the benefits of meditation.\n\n\nA Legacy of Wisdom \nThe 50th anniversary serves as a tribute to the vision of Kalu Rinpoche\, one of the first great lamas to bring the Dharma to the West. Over five decades\, KCC has been anchored by the guidance of resident lamas. \nHaving completed a 3-year retreat that is traditional in the Shangpa Kagyu tradition\, Lama Michael Conklin came to KCC in 1993 and retired in 2019. In 1994\, Eric Triebelhorn came to KCC as a recent college graduate interested in Buddhism. Deeply inspired by Lama Michael and other great lamas of this tradition\, Eric moved to India\, learned Tibetan and completed a traditional 3-year retreat in 2008. After 16 years in India working as a translator\, he returned to Portland and KCC to serve as the current Resident Lama in 2020. \n“This milestone is a bridge between our rich tradition and our future\,” says Executive Director Tim Campbell. “We are celebrating 50 years of being a refuge in Portland\, while also marking the 25th anniversary of our rural retreat center\, Ser Chö Ösel Ling (SCOL)\, in Goldendale\, Washington. Whether you are a long-time practitioner or simply curious about meditation\, our doors are open to everyone.”\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/50th-year-open-house/
