SUMMARY:Practicing With the Heart-Mind
DESCRIPTION:This five-day retreat is at SCOL\, our 240 acre retreat land near Goldendale WA.\n \nThe Heart-mind is the seat of our nonconceptual knowing. Mahamudra meditation is the practice of learning how to let things be just as they are—neither grasping & encouraging them nor judging & rejecting them. \nIn this retreat we will explore practices that observe how our bodies seem to hold emotions and what happens in the body when emotions arise. Our purpose will be to simply allow experience rather than to change\, fix\, or explain anything. By becoming aware of what is there\, we can befriend it in a non-conceptual way. \nWithin a fairly relaxed schedule\, we will observe silence in the mornings\, and the days will be filled with guided meditations\, discussions\, and plenty of time for personal practice in nature. There will be time for personal interviews. This retreat is for practitioners of all levels. \nThe retreat will be looking through a dharma/meditation lens.\nIt is not oriented around trauma discovery and therapeutic healing.\nThere will not be a professional therapist onsite. \nNo reading is necessary. However\, for some understanding of this approach\, and the science behind it\, I suggest Why We Meditate by Tsoknyi Rinpoche & Daniel Goleman. \nIf you have questions or need more information\, contact Lama Kathleen. \nRetreat Schedule  \nThe retreat opens on Thursday\, November 5th\, with dinner and an evening session and ends on Monday\, November 9th\, with a closing session and breakfast in the morning. For retreat days\, the schedule will be as follows: \nAM\n6:30 – 7:30 am             Personal practice\n7:30 – 9:00 am             Breakfast break\n9:00 – 10:30 am           Instruction\, guided meditation\n10:30 – 11:00 am         Tea break\n11:00 – 12:00 pm         Practice session \nPM\n12:00 – 2:30 pm           Lunch break\n2:30 – 4:00 pm            Q&A\, discussion\n4:00 – 4:30 pm            Tea break\n4:30 – 5:30 pm            Practice session\n5:30 – 7:00 pm            Dinner break\n6:45 – 7:45pm             Group session \nRegister For In Person \n  \nREGISTER FOR ZOOM\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/practicing-with-the-heart-mind/

SUMMARY:Children's Program
DESCRIPTION:The KCC Children’s Program is an opportunity to introduce children to Buddhist values within a supportive\, sincere dharma community using simple dharma activities\, storytelling\, open discussion\, songs\, art projects and activities\, including play\, to promote kindness and compassion. Our goal is to provide a fun\, meaningful experience for all. \nSunday Morning Children’s Program \nOn the second and fourth Sundays of each month\, from 9:00 to 11:00 am\, we offer the Sunday Morning Children’s Program. This program normally starts in September and runs through the second Sunday in June. In July and August we meet once a month on the fourth Sunday. We require that at least one parent or guardian be present at KCC when their child attends. \nThe age range we currently serve is 6 to 12; however\, we do allow slightly younger and older children on a case by case basis as appropriate. Please feel free to discuss this with the program coordinator\, Laurie Simpson\, if needed. Email contact here. \nWhile there is no fee for the program\, dana (offerings) are accepted and go towards helping us continue providing programs such as these. In order to support the program on Sundays we ask that parents agree to be available to assist the teacher if needed – this is a shared role and can be filled by parents or other adults who wish to participate in this way. During the regular school year please note that we request you consider committing to bringing your child both Sundays each month throughout this time frame\, but this is not required. \nAlso please be aware that\, to attend this program\, your child needs to be able to manage their speech and physical activity cooperatively in a small group to help maintain a peaceful children’s sangha. If this is a concern we ask that you attend with your child until they are comfortable with the group. Ultimately we want to be as inclusive as possible\, but must also work to create a safe and welcoming environment for all attending.\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://kcc.org/event/childrens-program-8/2026-11-08/
