New Year's Retreat 2019-2020 With Refuge Ceremony

Tuesday, December 31, 2019 - 9:00am to Wednesday, January 1, 2020 - 6:00pm
Location:
KCC Urban Center

Shamatha, or calm abiding meditation, will be taught during the New Year Retreat. The practice is the essential underpinning of all other meditation practices. While our minds are busy and distracted by a myriad of disconnected thoughts, feelings, and emotions, it is not possible to engage the meditation methods which could lead us to the intended result of directly recognizing the nature of mind. Shamata is a direct method for learning to let the mind rest naturally, free of our commitment to the tyranny of these distractions.

This retreat will provide an opportunity to learn how to meditate using a few of the many methods for this practice. We will also engage in discussion regarding how to work this technique into our daily affairs. Please join us whether you are a beginning or experienced meditator, regardless of your background.

Refuge Ceremony
A refuge ceremony will begin at 4:00pm on Wednesday, January 1st, and will conclude before 6:00pm. Everyone is invited to attend and witness it.

Going through the refuge ceremony is the process by which one formally becomes Buddhist. If you would like to take refuge, please let us know by sending an email with your first and last name to Keith Johnson.  If you have questions, contact any KCC teacher. You are welcome to invite family or friends to come and observe the ceremony.

This retreat is for beginning and experienced meditators regardless of background.  To learn more about the Refuge Ceremony, click on "read more".
